The NZ National Maritime Museum is situated at the heart of Auckland's downtown waterfront area.

Opened to the public in August 1993 and proclaimed as a "new generation" museum with no precedent in New Zealand, the New Zealand National Maritime Museum is truly a very different kind of cultural institution and tourist attraction.

The NZ National Maritime Museum offers:-

The Pacific Discovery Theatre and the presentation Te Waka: Our Great Journey.  The museum's orientation experience.
14 Main Exhibition Galleries showcasing New Zealand's maritime history.
Heritage vessels, (steam and sail) for inspection and cruises.
A varied and interesting Education programme, both on and off the water, including 'sleepovers'.
Visiting vessels in the museum's marina.
The Edmiston Gallery - Maritime Art treasures.
Changing exhibitions - both visiting exhibitions and from our own collection.
Opportunities for volunteers with an interest in people and/or things maritime.
Line7 America's Cup store, cafe, & Visitor Information Centre on-site.
Sail with Pride of Auckland Cruises.
An active 'Friends' membership programme.
   Research and library facilities.
A unique convention, conference and functions centre, 'The Maritime Room' with unsurpassed sea views.
School holiday programmes, educational fun for children.
... lots more!

Open 7-days except Christmas Day
Hours: 9 am to 6 pm (5 pm from Easter to October)
(The museum is currently open from 9am to 5 pm; last entry 4.30pm)
