The NZ National Maritime Museum is situated at the heart of Auckland's downtown waterfront area.
Opened to the public in August 1993 and proclaimed as a "new generation" museum with no precedent in New Zealand, the New Zealand National Maritime Museum is truly a very different kind of cultural institution and tourist attraction.
The Pacific Discovery Theatre and 'Te Waka: Our Great Journey', the museum's orientation experience. 14 Main Exhibition Galleries showcasing New Zealand's maritime history. Heritage vessels (steam and sail), for inspection and cruises. A varied and interesting education programme, both on and off the water, including 'sleepovers'. (except Christmas Day) from 9.00am to 6.00pm (5.00 pm from Easter to October). The Museum is currently open 9am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm)
